SUNY Broome saw a valiant 7th inning comeback attempt fall short in an 8-5 loss in game one, but rebounded and achieved a split with an exciting, back-and-forth 6-5 walk-off win in game two.
Game 1: SUNY Broome 5, FMCC 8
Tied 1-1 heading into the top of the 3rd, Fulton-Montgomery capitalized on a few mistakes to plate four runs and take a 5-1 lead. The Hornets answered in the 4th to move within 5-3, but the Raiders scored three more in the top of the 7th. Down 8-3 with just a half-inning remaining, SUNY Broome threatened to tie the game but only plated two runs and fell just short.
Peyton Farrell started the game for Broome and went 3.0 innings. He gave up four hits and three earned runs, including a home run, and struck out four while walking three. Nathan Moses dealt the other four innings, allowing three earned runs on two walks and two strikeouts.
Jacob McTigue was 1-3 with a sacrifice fly and 3 RBIs. Zechariah Clouston was 1-3 with an RBI. Jason Kithcart Jr. went 2-4 and scored a run.
Game 2: SUNY Broome 6, FMCC 5
SUNY Broome scored a run in the bottom of the first and then the contest remained scoreless until the top of the 5th. The Raiders plated two runs to go up 2-1, only for Broome to even the score in the bottom of the inning. The Hornets took a 4-2 lead in the 6th, but then three runs by Fulton-Montgomery saw the Hornets trailing heading into the bottom of the 7th again. In the end, Broome would score two runs- including a game-winning steal of home on a wild pitch- to pull off a walk-off 6-5 win.
McTigue started the game for the Hornets and pitched all seven innings. He was utterly dominant at points, striking out seven and walking just two.
Six different Hornets logged a hit in the contest. Nicholas Ragonese and Santino Michitti had multi-hit performances. Ragonese was 2-4 with a triple and two RBIs. Michitti went 2-3 with and RBI. Kaiden Cannistra was 1-3 with a double and an RBI, and Darlyn De Los Angeles had a double as well.
The Hornets improve to 4-8 on the season and the next matchup on the schedule is another doubleheader with Fulton-Montgomery, this time on the road.
