Hornets Sweep High Scoring Affairs At Finger Lakes

The two-game series between Mid-State Athletic Conference foes was an offensive frenzy as Broome won game one 18-13 and then held on to win game two 16-15.
Game 1: SUNY Broome 18, FLCC 13
The first leg of the doubleheader showcased 31 combined runs, more than 20 combined hits, and 10 combined errors. Finger Lakes had an 8-3 lead after three innings. SUNY Broome closed the deficit to 9-6 after four innings, then went up 13-12 after five. It was a commanding top of the 6th that plated six runs for the Hornets and allowed them to pull away for the win.
Defensively, four different Hornet pitchers combined to give up 13 runs, but just four of them were earned. Jacob McTigue earned the save in the contest, allowing just one run over two innings and striking out four.
Offensively, Broome tallied eight hits and then capitalized on errant Finger Lakes pitching by drawing 17 walks. McTigue and Zechariah Clouston each had three hits and two walks as both players reached base five times. Nathan Moses drew a team-high four walks while McTigue had a team-high four RBIs. Nicholas Ragonese drew three walks, scored three runs, and had three RBIs.
Game 2: SUNY Broome 16, FLCC 15
The second contest of the day saw 36 combined hits, and Broome recorded 21 of them. This was another back-and-forth game as despite SUNY Broome opening the game with a 3-0 lead, Finger Lakes held a 9-6 advantage after three. The Hornets went ahead 10-9 in the top of the 4th but then the Lakers responded with six runs in the bottom of the inning to regain the lead. After the score was 15-11 heading into the 6th, SUNY Broome plated five runs to move ahead 16-15 and closed it out in the 7th.
With the SUNY Broome bats on fire in game two, McTigue, Kaiden Cannistra, and Jason Kithcart Jr. led the team with three hits each. Darlyn De Los Angeles hit a line drive home run and led the team with four RBIs. De Los Angeles, Clouston, Kobe Dela Cruz, and Michael Albertine all had two hits each.
Clouston started the game on the bump for the Hornets and struck out five batters over 2.2 innings. Moses entered the game when the score was 15-11 in favor of Finger Lakes, and kept the Lakers at bay by pitching 2.1 innings and giving up just three hits and not allowing any runs.
The two-game series yielded some crazy stats for Clouston and McTigue, as neither player got out a single time across the two games. At the plate, Clouston went 5-5 on the day with four runs, three RBIs, a triple, three walks, and two sac flies. He also had the 5 K's pitching. McTigue was 6-6 with four walks, five RBIs, five runs, three stolen bases, a triple, and a double. On the mound, he dealt 3.0 innings, allowing just one hit and one run, and struck out six. Taking it a step further, McTigue is now 8-8 with five walks in his last 13 plate appearances, reaching base 13 straight times.
With the sweep of Finger Lakes, SUNY Broome improves to 3-3 overall and 3-1 in conference play.
