The Hornets battled tough at Hudson Valley but saw their four-game winning streak come to an end on Sunday.
SUNY Broome was swept by the #5 team in the NJCAA Division III baseball national poll; 11-4 in game one and 13-0 in game two.
Game 1: SUNY Broome 4, Hudson Valley 11
The Hornets took a 2-0 lead in the 1st before the Vikings scored 10 unanswered runs over the next three innings. The Hornets plated two runs in the 5th and then the Vikings answered with a run in the bottom of the 6th before closing out the game in the top of the 7th.
SUNY Broome scored its first two runs of the game on an RBI single by Santino Michitti and an RBI double by Kaiden Cannistra. In the 5th, the Hornets added two more after a Michitti sacrifice fly and a Cannistra single; his second hit of the game. Jacob McTigue also had a multi-hit effort in game one.
Nathan Moses, the Hornets' starter, allowed just one earned run over 2.0 innings, walking one.
Game 2: SUNY Broome 0, Hudson Valley 13
In a shortened, five inning game due to the 10-run rule, the Vikings plated runs during all four of their at-bats. Hudson Valley scored four runs in the 1st, four in the 2nd, three in the 3rd, and two in the 4th. The Hornets were held to just one hit in the contest.
Kobe Dela Cruz picked up the lone SUNY Broome base hit with one out in the 5th inning, breaking up what was a no-hitter by the Vikings through 4.1 innings.
Joseph Chermak started on the mound for the Hornets and allowed four earned runs on four walks over an inning of work.
SUNY Broome falls to 13-20 with the two losses. The Hornets will return home on Tuesday to host a doubleheader with Jefferson CC.
