In 2025, the SUNY Broome baseball team will look to build on the success from its best season in the last 10 years.
In 2024, the Hornets' eight wins were the most in a season since 2014. First-year Head Coach, Seve Kowalksi, brought some excitement to Edwin C. Daub Field as his Hornets finished #10 nationally in all of NJCAA Division III baseball in stolen bases. Four players were rewarded with All-Conference recognition at the end of the season.
Looking ahead at the 2025 season, SUNY Broome projects to have some great young talent mixed in with a strong returning class, a sign that the program should continue its rise in year two under Kowalski.
Jacob McTigue is a returning All-Conference recipient from 2024 and looks to lead the Hornets at shortstop and pitcher. McTigue turned a Mid-State Athletic Conference-leading 16 double plays at shortstop least season. Peyton Farrell, also a returner, looks to have another strong year as a starting pitcher and captain of the pitching staff. Another returner, Nicholas Ragonese, is the primary team captain and a tremendous leader who makes strong impacts on the game with both his bat and his glove.
In addition to the key returners, some high-level freshmen will join the Hornets for the 2025 season. Jason Kithcart Jr. is a hard-throwing right-handed pitcher who will also swing a strong bat and provide great utility in the field. Santino Michitti is a quality catcher who won the New York State Class A Baseball State Championship with Maine-Endwell High School last year. Darlyn De Los Angeles is a catcher/infielder/designated hitter from the Dominican Republic. Carmelo Alessandro is a third baseman/shortstop from Syracuse, NY. Emmanuel Aponte-Cardoza is a first baseman/designated hitter/pitcher from Aruba.
In all, SUNY Broome returns nine players from the 2024 team and adds 12 new players for 2025.
The Hornets open their season this Saturday with a doubleheader at Cuyahoga CC in Ohio.
