The Hornets defeated the Twins 6-1 in the opening game of the double dip, and then picked up a 10-0 shutout victory in five innings to close the day.
Game 1: SUNY Broome 6, Columbia-Greene 1
The Hornets delivered six runs on eight hits to earn the opening win. SUNY Broome never trailed in the contest, jumping out to a 3-0 lead after two innings. It was 3-1 after four innings, but the Hornets scored two in the 6th and one in the 7th to pull away.
Santino Michitti was stellar at the plate, going 3-4 with a double and two RBIs. Michitti started the scoring for the Hornets, hitting his double in the top of the 1st and driving in two. Zechariah Clouston also had a multi-hit game, going 2-4 with an RBI. Nicholas Ragonese and Joseph Chermak stole two bases each in the win.
Farrell was highly effective on the mound, delivering a complete game. He limited the Twins to just three hits over 7.0 innings, striking out five and walking just two. He faced just four batters over the minimum.
Game 2: SUNY Broome 10, Columbia-Greene 0
SUNY Broome struck for eight hits again and scored 10 runs to shutout the Twins after five innings. A top of the 4th in which the Hornets plated seven runs was a crucial part of the win.
The Hornets got on the board first when Clouston singled in a run. Then Clouston hit a solo home run in the 3rd to extend the lead to 2-0. Connor Normile Jr. started the offensive barrage in the 4th by drawing a walk and driving in a run. Michitti followed with a single and two RBIs. Then Kobe Dela Cruz doubled to bring in two more runs. Then Ragonese had an RBI triple. And finally, Michael Albertine had an RBI groundout.
Clouston was 2-2 in the contest. Dela Cruz was 2-4 in the contest.
On the mound, McTigue followed up Farrell's dominant start with one of his own. He also delivered a complete game, pitching all five innings, and had seven strikeouts while allowing just three hits and walking none. McTigue faced just two batters over the minimum.
The Hornets improved to 9-15 on the season with the sweep and moved to 4-0 on the season against Columbia-Greene.
