
Strong Pitching Leads Hornets To Sweep Of Jefferson

The Hornets took two games from the visiting Cannoneers on Tuesday, winning the first game 12-2 in six innings and winning the second game 5-2.
Game 1: SUNY Broome 12, Jefferson 2
Connor Normile Jr. started the scoring for the Hornets in the 2nd with an RBI on a fielder's choice. Kithcart Jr. hit a sacrifice fly in the 3rd to add on to Broome's lead, 2-0. The Hornets broke the game open in the bottom of the 5th, plating six runs on three hits. Santino Michitti drove in two on a single, Kaiden Cannistra drove in two on a single, and Kobe Dela Cruz drove in one on single. Then a wild pitch by the Cannoneers plated the sixth SUNY Broome run of the inning.
In the bottom of the 6th, two walks and a hit-by-pitch for the first three batters loaded the bases with no outs. After a pop up for the first out, Michitti would plate a run on a sacrifice fly to make it 9-2 Hornets. Cannistra drove in two more with a single and Broome went up 11-2. Cannistra then scored on a passed ball to put Broome up 12-2, ending the game due to the 10-run rule.
All in all, Cannistra was 3-4 with four RBIs, Michitti was 1-2 with three RBIs, Dela Cruz was 2-2 with an RBI, and McTigue was 1-2 with a triple.
Farrell pitched a complete game, allowing just five hits and two earned runs over his 6.0 innings of work. He walked just one and struck out three to earn his third win of the season.
Game 2: SUNY Broome 5, Jefferson 2
After two scoreless innings, Zechariah Clouston put the Hornets ahead 1-0 with an RBI single in the 3rd. After Jefferson answered with two runs in the 4th, the Hornets would retake the lead with three runs in the 5th on singles by Kithcart Jr. and Michitti. A fifth Hornet run was plated in the bottom of the 6th on an RBI single by Nicholas Ragonese.
Clouston, Michitti, and Ragonese all had multiple hits in the contest. McTigue doubled.
Kithcart Jr. limited the Cannoneers to just four hits and two runs, none earned, over 4.0 innings. He walked just one and struck out three. McTigue pitched 3.0 innings in relief to earn his fifth win of the year; walking none and striking out three.
The Hornets improved to 15-20 overall with the sweep of Jefferson.
