The visiting Hornets took a thriller in game one, 8-7. Jefferson responded with a commanding 11-2 win in the second game as the teams split Thursday's twin bill.
Game 1: SUNY Broome 8, Jefferson 7
SUNY Broome faced an early 3-0 deficit after Jefferson scored in the 1st and 2nd innings. The Hornets responded by exploding for six runs in the top of the 3rd, but the Cannoneers answered with four runs in the bottom half to retake the lead. Down 7-6 entering the 6th inning, Broome came back with a run in the 6th and 7th and pulled out the win. Broome scored the eight runs on seven hits.
Jacob McTigue started on the rubber for the Hornets and dealt five quality innings. He allowed four hits and surrendered just three earned runs, walking three and striking out five. Jason Kithcart Jr. secured the win in relief by tossing two scoreless innings, walking one and striking out three.
In a two-way effort, McTigue tallied two hits, including a double, and scored two runs. Kaiden Cannistra was 1-4 with two runs scored and two RBIs. Kithcart Jr., Zechariah Clouston, Santino Michitti, and Darlyn De Los Angeles also had one RBI each.
Game 2: SUNY Broome 2, Jefferson 11
The Hornets logged just four hits as a team in game two. Broome jumped out to a 2-0 advantage in the 2nd inning, but was held scoreless the rest of the way. Jefferson plated 11 unanswered runs and rolled to the victory.
Peyton Farrell allowed five earned runs over 4.0 innings, walking six, striking out three, and allowing a home run. Joseph Chermak and Evan Persbacker followed in relief.
Michitti and De Los Angeles collected a hit each and De Los Angeles scored a run. Kobe Dela Cruz and Carmelo Alessandro fueled the Hornet offense as each logged a double and scored a run. Alessandro drove in two.
After the first 18 games of the season, SUNY Broome sits at 5-13 with a 4-6 mark in conference. The Hornets return home on Saturday and Sunday, tentatively scheduled to host doubleheaders vs Jefferson and Columbia-Greene CC, respectively.
