
Cannistra's Big Day Fuels Hornets' Sweep Of Cayuga
Kaiden Cannistra was 6-8 on the day on Tuesday as SUNY Broome swept a doubleheader over Cayuga.

Kaiden Cannistra was 6-8 on the day on Tuesday as SUNY Broome swept a doubleheader over Cayuga.
The sweep was huge for the Hornets, as Cayuga entered the day with a 25-9 record on the season.
SUNY Broome won game one 10-5 and won game two 6-3.
Game 1: SUNY Broome 10, Cayuga 5
The first game of the double dip required two comebacks in order for the Hornets to win. The Spartans held a 4-0 lead after two innings, but SUNY Broome closed the gap to 4-3 in the bottom of the 3rd and then tied the game at 4-4 in the bottom of the 4th. Cayuga would score another run in the top of the 6th, but Broome exploded for six runs in the bottom of the inning to retake the lead before closing things out in the 7th.
Connor Normile Jr. had an RBI single to tie the game at 4-4 in the 4th. In the 6th, the Hornets plated six runs on two hits, one being a triple by Nicholas Ragonese which drove in two runs.
Multiple Hornets had at least one hit in the contest. Zechariah Clouston was 1-3 with two RBIs. Santino Michitti was 1-4 with an RBI. Darlyn De Los Angeles also logged a hit. Carmelo Alessandro was 2-3 with an RBI.
Cannistra was 3-4 with a double and two RBIs in the game one win.
Clouston was the starting pitcher for the Hornets and allowed just two earned runs over 4.0 innings pitched, striking out four. Joseph Chermak entered into the game in relief and earned his first win of the season.
Game 2: SUNY Broome 6, Cayuga 3
The Hornets rode their momentum from the game one win to a 3-0 lead after two innings of the second game. Cayuga scored three runs in the top of the 3rd to tie the game. SUNY Broome would put up three runs of their own in the bottom of the 4th to retake the lead, and the Hornets held the Spartans scoreless for the final three innings.
Cannistra continued his hot offensive day by driving in two runs on a single in the bottom of the 1st. Then the Hornets plated another run on a Chermak sacrifice fly in the 2nd. When the Hornets regained the lead in the bottom of the 4th, it was thanks to a 2-RBI triple by Michitti and another RBI single by Cannistra.
Chermak started the game on the mound for the Hornets, surrendering three runs over 3.0 innings and striking out three. Nathan Moses pitched a scoreless inning in relief to earn his second win of the season. Jacob McTigue secured the save in the 7th.
Across the two games, Cannistra batted 6-8 (.750) and collected five RBIs. The sweep improved Broome's record to 11-18.
