Broome men's basketball defeated Corning CC by a thrilling score of 87-81 on Thursday to improve to 1-1.

This was the Hornets' first victory over the Red Barons since 2016.

Broome jumped out to an early 14-2 lead in the first half behind a persistent and fast-paced transition game, fueled by the large crowd in attendance in the Baldwin Gymnasium. A strong shooting night from both teams, especially from three-point range, moved the score closer to a 39-31 advantage for Broome with 2:35 left in the first half. The Hornets would head to the locker room with a 44-38 lead at halftime.

In an exciting game, the first half cushion provided to Broome proved to be the difference, as the second half would see an even total of 43 points by each team. Each time that the Red Barons made a run, the Hornets emphatically responded, holding on to the game late, and securing an 87-81 victory at home.

Sophomore Forward Jean Senatus led the way for Broome with 18 points and 10 rebounds en route to a double-double. Senatus shot 89% from the field, and registered an offensive rebound to a put back finish on two crucial occasions with under two minutes to go in the game.

Freshman Shooting Guard Joseph Miller was the second-leading scorer for the Hornets with 16 points, four rebounds, and one assist. Providing a spark off the bench, Miller went four-of-four from the three-point line in the second half, re-establishing the momentum for Broome on several different occasions after a Corning run.

Freshman Forward Connor Green was dominant down-low for the Hornets, finishing with 11 points and 12 rebounds, good for another double-double. Green shot 75% from the field.

As a team, the Hornets shot over 50% from the field, 39% from three-point range, and 80% from the free-throw line, grabbing 42 total rebounds.

With the win, Broome notched the first home victory and first victory overall of the season, moving to 1-1. The Hornets will hit the road on Saturday to visit the Genesee CC Cougars who sit at 0-3 on the year with three close defeats.
