Hornets Fall Victim To Second Half Run By Tompkins Cortland In Loss

The men's basketball team visited the Panthers of Tompkins Cortland CC on Tuesday and fell by a score of 81-69.

After Broome trailed just 63-62 in the second half, Tompkins Cortland used an 18-2 run from the 7:25 mark to under a minute to play to pull away from the Hornets. 

The first half of basketball in Dryden was back and forth with both teams trading baskets to the tune of eight lead changes. Broome held a 24-21 lead with 7:50 left in the first half before a run by the Panthers put them up 30-24 with five minutes to play. They would grow that advantage to a 38-31 lead before the Hornets scored the final three points of the first half and trailed just 38-34 at halftime. 

Tompkins Cortland got out to a 47-39 lead early in the second half and grew that advantage to 52-43. With the Panthers up 59-51 at the 10:57 mark, the Hornets went on a 9-2 run to make the score 61-60 at the 8:18 mark. Both teams made a layup and moved the score to 63-62 before the aforementioned decisive run that controlled the game and led to the win for the Panthers. 

The Hornets were led in scoring by 15 points off the bench from Cassidy Williamson-Chin, who shot an efficient 7-10 from the field. Antonio Maria was second in scoring with 14 points, 3 rebounds, and 3 assists. Connor Green managed a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Jean Senatus was the fourth and final Hornet in double figures with 10 points, 7 rebounds, 3 assists, and 2 blocks. 

With the loss, Broome falls to 6-12 on the season and 4-7 in MSAC play. Tompkins Cortland improves to 12-4 overall and 10-1 in conference play with the win. The Hornets will be on the road again on Sunday at 2:00 p.m. against NJCAA DIII #12 nationally-ranked Mohawk Valley CC.
