Men's Basketball Splits Weekend Road Trip

The men's basketball team went 1-1 over a two-game weekend road trip, beating Hudson Valley CC by 10 and falling to SUNY Adirondack CC by 2 in OT.

Broome traveled to the McDonough Sports Complex on the campus of Hudson Valley CC on Saturday for the first game of the weekend trip. The Hornets took a 41-33 lead into halftime and picked up a 91-81 win over the Vikings. The 91 points was the Hornets' third-highest point total of the season and this was the second game in a row of Broome putting up 90+ points. 

Six Broome players scored in double figures in the win, including all five starters. Antonio Maria led the way for the Hornets, contributing 21 points, 7 rebounds, and 2 blocks. Quavir Coleman was next in scoring for Broome. Off the bench, Coleman scored 17 points on 7-10 shooting and added 4 rebounds and 4 steals. Forwards Connor Green and Jean Senatus also had productive games with 11 points and 7 rebounds, and 10 points and 7 rebounds, respectively. The Hornets shot 50% from the field as a team in the win.

The Hornets then traveled to SUNY Adirondack CC on Sunday for a road date with the Timberwolves. The game was heavily competitive throughout, with each period (first half, second half, and overtime) being decided by two points. The Hornets held a 36-34 advantage heading into the break, but the Timberwolves outscored Broome 41-39 in the second half to tie the score at 75-75 at the end of regulation. The Timberwolves then had another two-point advantage at the end of overtime, allowing them to take the win, 88-86. 

Maria continued his excellent scoring weekend for the Hornets, exploding for a career-high 31 points on 12-18 shooting from the field. Maria delivered many big plays for the Hornets down the stretch of the game, including several "And 1's" with under a few minutes remaining. Coleman continued his hot start to the second semester with 15 points and 5 rebounds, knocking down three of his four three-point attempts. Senatus was a force on the inside for Broome and finished with 15 points, 7 rebounds, 2 steals, and 1 block. Senatus shot 7-9 from the field and currently leads Region 3 in FG%. 

The Hornets move to 5-9 on the season, with a 3-4 record in MSAC competition and a 5-7 record in Region 3 play. Broome will return home on Wednesday for a home game with the Genesee CC Cougars, slated for a 5:00 p.m. tipoff.
