Men's Basketball Goes 1-1 Over Weekend

The men's basketball team hosted #3 nationally ranked Herkimer and played to a slim defeat on Friday night before going on the road to Columbia-Greene and picking up a 17 point win on Sunday.

Beginning the two-game weekend for the Hornets was a matchup with 18-1 and #3 ranked Herkimer College on Friday night. The home team played a phenomenal game all around, competing with the Generals in multiple statistical categories. That reflected itself on the court with an even first half which saw Broome hold the lead for multiple stretches and ultimately only trail Herkimer by one point at the break. The Generals only increased the separation by six more points in the second half, leading to a final score of 73-66. 

Broome shot a very comparable percentage from the field to Herkimer, and shot better percentages from three-point range and from the free-throw line than the Generals. They also tallied more assists and less turnovers, leading to a performance that gave Herkimer one of its most closely-contested games all season. 

Connor Green led the way in scoring for the Hornets with a 16 point 10 rebound double-double. Conor Holland scored 12 points. Quavir Coleman was very impressive with another double-double behind 11 points and 11 rebounds. Antonio Maria also added 11 points. 

After a day off on Saturday, Broome was back in action on Sunday for a road game against Columbia-Greene. The Hornets put up a respectable 34 points in the first half and trailed 40-34. Then came an offensive explosion by Broome in the second half as they scored 58 points and held the Twins to just 35 points en route to a 92-75 victory. Coleman had a career day for the Hornets with 29 points to go along with 3 rebounds and 4 assists. Green had another double-double with 22 points and 11 rebounds. Jean Senatus just missed a double-double with 15 points and 9 rebounds. Holland also scored 10 in the contest and added 5 assists. The Hornets shot over 60% from the field in the come-from-behind win. 

Broome sits at 9-13 overall on the season and 5-7 in MSAC play. There are three games left on the docket in the regular season. Broome hosts Cayuga CC at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday for Sophomore Recognition night in the final home game of the regular season.
