The men's basketball team hosted Genesee CC on Wednesday night and played exceptionally well, ultimately falling short in a 100-93 loss in OT.

The Hornets held a lead for the majority of the first half on Wednesday, but a late rally by Genesee in the closing seconds gave the Cougars a slight 43-40 advantage at halftime. The second half was closely-contested as well, with each team holding a lead for multiple spurts of time, and then multiple subsequent lead changes.

Possessing the ball in the frontcourt with under 20 seconds left and an opportunity to win the game in regulation, Broome called a timeout to draw up a play. After a brief scramble by both teams on the final play, Quavir Coleman had a high-quality look at a three-pointer for the Hornets that just missed as the second half buzzer sounded. After entering OT tied at 83-83, the Hornets were outscored late by the Cougars and fell just short, 100-93.

Broome received exceptional offensive outputs from multiple players, including Coleman, Antonio Maria, and Jean Senatus all registering 18 points apiece. Coleman also tallied 5 steals and 4 assists off the bench. Maria logged 5 assists, and Senatus added 5 rebounds and 2 blocks. Connor Green tallied a double-double with 10 points, 12 rebounds, and 3 blocks.

Axell Camacho-Cintron scored 11 points, and grabbed 4 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals, and 3 blocks. Cassidy Williamson-Chin added 10 points and 4 rebounds off the bench, and Conor Holland rounded out the scoring for Broome with 8 points.

The Hornets shot 54.4% from the field and 37% from three-point range as a team, but went just 60% from the free-throw line. Despite the strong effort against a Cougars team that is nationally ranked #11 overall in NJCAA Division III men's basketball, the Hornets drop to 5-10 on the season.

Broome will be home again on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. to face the Jefferson Cannoneers.
