After only trailing by seven points at halftime, the Hornets of SUNY Broome were defeated 80-56 by the Panthers of Tompkins Cortland on Saturday.

Broome started the scoring for the game quickly and had multiple early advantages in the first half. As the half went on, Tompkins Cortland would eventually impose its will on the Hornets. But, at the end of the first 20 minutes of the game, Broome had just a 41-34 deficit. The Hornets, however, ended up getting outshot and out-rebounded by the Panthers in the game and ultimately dropped the contest by a greater margin.

Broome struggled to score in the second half, totaling under 25 points, and allowed Tompkins Cortland to run away with the lead.

The Panthers held an advantage over the Hornets in multiple categories throughout the game. Tompkins Cortland shot 43.1% from the field, 65.4% from the free-throw line, and grabbed 46 rebounds. Broome, meanwhile, connected from the field at a clip of 32.8%, shot 44% from the charity stripe, and collected 29 rebounds as a team. 

Jean Senatus was effective for SUNY Broome, making four of his five field goal attempts, including going two of four from three-point range. Senatus ended the contest with a team-high 14 points and six rebounds. Cassidy Williamson-Chin continued his strong play from the guard position, filling up the box score with 13 points, five rebounds, three steals, and two assists. Ibrahima Sow provided quality minutes off the bench and also tallied 13 points, adding six rebounds, and two steals. 

With the loss, the Hornets fall to 3-5 on the season and 3-3 in Mid-State Athletic Conference play. The Panthers improve to 4-1 overall and 4-1 in the MSAC with the win.

Broome will be back in action on Wednesday with a road matchup against Jefferson CC. The game is scheduled for a 6:00 p.m. tip off.
