Broome men's basketball

Broome men's basketball came up short in an 82-68 contest against the Genesee CC Cougars on Saturday.

The Hornets were led by Freshman Guard Antonio Maria, who contributed 20 points, four assists, and one block. Maria was able to penetrate and get to the basket against Genesee's man to man defense. He also knocked down three three-pointers.

Forward Jean Senatus continued his early-season dominance from the post by scoring 18 points and snagging seven rebounds while shooting 70% from the field.

Freshman Forward Connor Green continued to lead the team in rebounding by grabbing 12 boards in the game. He posted a double-double, adding 12 points, five assists, and 2 blocks to his stat line.

After a double-digit halftime deficit, the Hornets outscored the Cougars 37-35 in the second half. Broome was outshot from the field and from three-point range by Genesee, however the Hornets converted on a much higher percentage of their free-throws than the Cougars and used Senatus' dominant post effort to outscore Genesee 34-26 on points in the paint.

Broome will be back on the road on Thursday to take on the Onondaga CC Lazers at 7:30 p.m.
